Philadelphia, Pa- July 16, 2013- Fare & Square, a not-for-profit grocery store opening in the City of Chester, has announced dates for upcoming Carrot Club membership enrollment events at various locations across Delaware County. Fare & Square is slated to open in late September providing Chester with a full range of food staples, with a focus on fresh healthy foods like produce, meat, deli items and seafood, at everyday low prices.

About Fare & Square

Philabundance, the Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization, is bringing Fare & Square, a not-for-profit grocery store, to the City of Chester, Pa in September of 2013. Fare & Square will give Chester residents convenient, reliable access to “good food right around the corner” with a focus on food staples like fresh produce, deli items, meats, dairy, seafood, and frozen foods. Fare & Square will help stretch customers dollars by accepting SNAP/Food Stamp benefits coupled with everyday low pricing and a percentage off of future purchases for eligible customers. The west end of the City of Chester is one of 35 USDA determined food deserts in the Delaware Valley and has been without a full service grocery store since 2001. Philabundance is rehabbing the entire 21,000 sq. ft. building, creating a new gateway on the west end of Chester at the corner of 9th and Trainer will create 40 to 50 new jobs in Chester, hiring from the community when possible. Philabundance hopes to replicate this model in other communities that need it. For more information, visit or call 215-339-0900.
